twenty-four
I’m enjoying watching series four of 24 at the moment. I gave up on 24 after the first series because I found Jack Bauer’s daughter to be one of the most infuriating characters on television. If you’ve seen the series you will know what I mean. However, series four was recommended to me and thankfully the daughter is so far completely absent.
It’s quite entertaining, but the computer based plot elements are complete nonsense. The computer language used makes no sense at all. My favourite quote so far comes from the character Marianne:
Edgar, can you monitor my allocation tables for a few minutes?
And then there is the idea that terrorists would write a virus to compromise every router on the internet (all squillion million of them) to reroute all internet traffic to one particular site. And that the control systems of all the nuclear power stations in the US are connected to the internet! Protected only by a firewall! A firewall which can be penetrated using, apparently, a packet flooding attack!
Now I know how forensic scientists feel when they watch CSI.
It’s also interesting that, in the world of 24, torture is used with impunity and always yields reliable information.
Still, I’m enjoying watching the series so it can’t be all bad.

I half watched the first two hours of this season and it just didn’t grab me, so I decided not to keep watching, even though I still have seven episodes that I taped .. heh
