what’s a percent between friends

Idly surfing the ‘net this evening, I stumbled across an intriguing site: www.pledgebank.com. It allows you to publicly pledge to do something, but only if other people pledge to do the same.

Current top billed pledge comes from Nicola (or ‘cola’ as she prefers to be known), who has pledged to donate 1% of her gross salary to charity - so long as 400 other people pledge likewise.

When I read this I was initially dismayed at the idea of using gross salary rather then net salary. But then, in a moment of terrifying clarity, I realised I was turning into an accountant. So I swiftly curtailed that line of thought and signed up. 1% comes to somewhat less than twenty quid per month, which is not much really. It will make me feel more virtuous about going overdrawn.

Cola is blogging about her pledge here. Why not sign up yourself?

There is one response to “what’s a percent between friends”:

    Hi Richard

Cola here. Cheers for the post. I’m slowly starting to build up a bit of momentum on the campaign (it’s taken me 2 weeks to get 10 people) but hoping some publicity will get some more names! Thanks for signing up.
